Our Commitment to Green

For more than 50 years, Chris & Dick’s has been a responsible member of the global community. As our manufacturing and distribution networks have grown in recent years, our environmental impact has become an increasingly important part of our culture. We are committed to preserving our environment and enhancing the quality of life in the communities we serve. Our environmental focus is demonstrated in many ways that reflect the strength of that commitment. The fact is, environmental responsibility is a policy for us, not a one-time project. It is simply good business. We are committed to creating safe environments and preservation for future generations.

We fabricate all of our countertops in house, which reduces our transportation emissions and allows us to control our waste and recycled material. In additiona, most of our cabinets are produced locally, by nationally renowned craftsmen: Eagle Cabinets, Cabinetry by Karman, and American Heritage Cabinets. Buying local saves time and money and helps reduce our carbon footprint. Because we are their preferred distributor, you don’t have to pay a premium price for a premium product, made locally by people you know.
Most of our products are Greenguard certified. This means that they won’t harm the environment or the homes, businesses and schools they are installed into. GREENGUARD Certification guarantees that a product has meets rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Cabinetry by Karman is committed to maintaining the viability of global forests by purchasing hardwood materials from suppliers that are dedicated to environmentally responsible forestry programs whenever possible. Therefore, FSC certified materials are available as an option on any cabinet project that you may have. Our FSC certification assures you that we meet strict tracking requirements for the raw materials used to create a wood product originating from a well-managed FSC certified forest.
Cabinetry by Karman can provide products manufactured from materials which will help to qualify for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program credits. LEED is a nationally recognized certification program standard in green development and building designs. LEED
promotes the use of environmentally friendly products and materials used in development of sustainable green building structures.
All of Cabinetry by Karman’s composite materials are certified under the Composite Panel Association’s Environmentally Preferred Products (EPP) Downstream Program. This seal validates that our products:
- use 100% recycled or recovered wood fiber.
- contain less than 0.18 ppm of formaldehyde in unfinished particleboard.
- contain less than 0.21 ppm of formaldehyde in unfinished medium density fiberboard.
- are included in ongoing participant testing for formaldehyde emissions.
